Biography

Caroline was born in 1842. Her mother's maiden name was Morse. ^[1]

In 1861 Caroline was living with her parents John and Mary Ann in Yorkley. John was a Coal Miner and Inn Keeper at the Globe Beer House. ^[2]

In 1864 Caroline married William Wintle in Newnham. Her father John was listed as a Miner. ^[3]

In 1871 Caroline and William lived in Yorkley with 3 children, Sarah, Frances and William H. William was a Colliery Engine Driver. ^[4] They had another 4 children (including another William) by 1881 and were living in Parkend. ^[5] In 1891 the family were living in Yorkley and they have another child, Henry B aged 8. Caroline and William are now aged 49. ^[6]

In 1901 William and Caroline were in Parkend, their children had left. William was an Engine Driver (stationery). ^[7] In 1911 the couple were in their late 60's and lived with son William Lovice (who was married, and had been for 10 years but his wife wasn't there that night). William and Caroline had been married for 49 years, had 9 children, 2 of whom had died. William was a Colliery Engine Driver above Ground and they lived at Parkend in 4 rooms in a tenement house. ^[8]

Caroline lived a long life - she died at the age of 90 in 1933. Her death was registered in Monmouth. (the area covering the Forest of Dean). ^[9] She was buried in Parkend on 16th January. ^[10]
