Biography

According to Tyrrell County, NC Apprentice Records dated 5/3/1761, John Jarman/Jarmain was "a bastard boy" apprenticed to Isaac Meekins at about 11 years of age.

In the 1790 Tyrrell County US Census, John Jarman, Isaac Meekins, and the Culliphers are neighbors.

Tyrrell County land grant files dated 1795 link John Jarman and Henry Cullipher (father or brother of John's wife Mary Cullipher).

In the 1800 Tyrrell County US Census, John Jarman is head of a household of 8.

Estate files in 1806 list his wife's name as Mary. Inventory list of John Jarman, deceased, includes purchasers Mary Jarman (his wife) and Samuel Sexton (husband of John Jarman's daughter Kezia.)

Mary Jarman is listed in the 1810 Tyrrell County, NC US Census.
