Biography

Seymour was born on the 6 of September in 1908 to the parents of James Jeffers and Mary (Smith) Jeffers at Stewiacke, [1]where his parents had moved to from Parrsboro. [2]A few years after his birth, Seymour and his parents moved to Oxford, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia, Canada.

After losing his mother, Mary (Smith) Jeffers at the age of 6, he was raised by his father and older sisters.

On the 30th June 1931, Seymour married at the Baptist Parsonage in Amherst, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia, Canada to Lily Amy Tingley, daughter of Lewis Tingley and Caroline (Chappell) Tingley . [3] First living on Handel Street in Oxford for about 8 years, before buying property on McCormick Street, South Oxford from the Nova Scotia Land Settlement Board.

Seymour was a farmer and owning a pair of horses, managed to find work, some day jobs; others may last for a week or even longer. For a few years, Seymour made the mail delivery in Oxford from the Post Office to the train, twice a day, once at 11 a.m. and then again at 3 p.m. In the evening, he will make the trip from Oxford to Oxford Junction train station, delivering the mail from the Post Office and any passengers that needed transportation. Other jobs included hauling lumber to the train, building a sawmill on Foundry Street, cutting logs in Hansford, hauling light poles to Street Ridge when they were putting in the electric, help building houses and the Irving Garage on the flat. As a farmer, he also supply milk to the local community. Later in life, he worked for the Oxford Desk Company, where he had the misfortune to loose three fingers and thumb on his right hand in July 1963 while operating an automatic cut-off saw. [4] His last job before retiring was as night watchmen for Gordon's Greenhouses Limited.[5]

Seymour passed away on the 9th of June in 1988 at the Hospital in Amherst, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia, Canada. [6]He was buried in the Oxford Pine Grove Cemetery, Oxford, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia, Canada. [7]
