Presumed Mother Phebe Doty

Phebe Doty, descended from Mayflower passenger Edward Doty, was the second wife of Robert Jellison, Jr. and mother of his child Doty Jellison, born in 1820. There is no record of Robert having an additional wife between 1820 and 1836 (when he married Mrs. Elizabeth Purnell) so Phebe was most likely the mother of Susan. An mtDNA test comparing the DNA in the daughter's daughter's (etc.) line of Susanna to a daughter's daughter's line of one of Phebe's full sisters could prove or disprove whether Phebe was Susan's mother.

Biography

Susan Jellison was born 31 Dec. 1829[1], presumably at her father's homestead in Derry Twp., Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.

Susan married George Washington Singley on 16 Aug. 1848[2], presumably at Derry Twp., Westmoreland Co., PA where they were both living at the time. George was the son of Peter C. Singley, who lived on either side of border of Westmoreland County and Indiana County.

“George W. and Susanna continued to live in Pennsylvania until after Peter’s estate was settled in 1853, then sometime before 1858 they moved to Hancock County, Illinois. Their eldest surviving son, Rhees R., was born there in 1858 and later the family moved to Green City, Missouri in the northern part of the state. This location was about 35 miles south of where George W.’s uncle George and cousin, who was also named George Washington, lived near Moulton, Iowa.”[3]

"Susan Singley" was one of the heirs named in the will of her father Robert Jellison of Derry, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.
