He embarked 27 May 1916 from Wellington, aboard HMNZT 54 or HMNZT 55 the vessels Willochra or Tofua. He was a Lance Corporal/in the 13th Reinforcements Canterbury Infantry Battalion, C Company of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force . He was killed in Action, with the New Zealand Machine Gun Corps, 3 Company on 8 June 1917 in Belgium,. He is memorialized on the Messines Ridge (New Zealand) Memorial, Messines Ridge British Cemetery, in Belgium [3]
