Horace Wright Johnson was born July 12, 1924, in Miami, Ottowa County, Oklahoma, United States, the son of Edward Oliver Johnson and Sara Rebecca Boice.

He married Anne Inez McCaffrey January 14, 1950, in Montclair, Essex County, New Jersey.^[1] They were to have three children, a daughter, and two sons.
They were divorced in 1970.
