Matthew Johnson was born on June 22, 1921 in Opelousas, St. Landry, Louisiana, United States, son of Ned Johnson (1895–1961) and Laura Bell Aaron (1897–1978).

In the 1930 census M (age 9) was the son of Ned Johnson in Parish Road No. 2 U.S. Rt-1, Police Jury Ward 1, St Landry, Louisiana, United States.^[1]

Matthew died on January 11, 2001, aged 79. He was buried in Paradise North Cemetery, Houston, Harris County, Texas.^{[2] [3]}
