Biography

Isaac Johnson was part of a Southern Pioneer Family.

Isaac Johnson 1st married Judith Woodson.[1] They had 6 children:

  1. Jacob Johnson.
  2. Nancy Johnson.
  3. Phillip Johnson.
  4. Lucy Johnson.
  5. Sally Johnson and
  6. Elizabeth Johnson.

When Isaac's wife Judith died, he remarried in 1800 to Mary and had 8 more children:

  1. Alexander Johnson.
  2. Peter Johnson.
  3. Dekar Johnson,
  4. Rebecca Johnson.
  5. Polly Johnson.
  6. Delila Johnson Bugg [2]
  7. Frederick Johnson and
  8. Wiley Johnson.

All of his children were named in his will, which was recorded in Cumberland Co, VA on 28 Aug 1816. His brothers Jacob Johnson and Obadiah Johnson were named as executors of the will (Cumberland Co, VA Will Bk 5, pg 303)

Cumberland County, Virginia August 28th 1816.

I Isaac Johnson of the above mentioned County do make my last will and Testament as follows --

First, my wish and desire is that all my just and lawfull debts to be paid -

Secondly, my wish and desire is that my Estate be kept together during the life of my wife or widowhood for the benefit of raising my children by her. And provided she marries every species of my property both real & personal to be sold and the monies arising there from to be equally divided among my said children as they come of age. Alexander, Peter, Dekar, Polly, Rebeca, Frederick, Delila, and Wily this division to take place in either Case, and the monies due me from the Estate of George Cox, Tenessee to be collected by my Executors and to be equally divided among my children above named as they come of age -

Thirdly, I give & bequeath unto my son Jacob Johnson a negro boy by the name of Jesse to be delivered him at my death to him his heirs & assigns forever -

Fourthly. I give and bequeath to my daughter Nancy Fowler all the money due me from the Estate of Drury Woodson deceased at the death of his widow Lucy Woodson to her her heirs and assigns forever

I give to my son Phillip Johnson Ten dollars

I give to my daughter Lucy Thomas ten dollars

I give to my daughter Sally Damron ten dollars

I give to my daughter Elizabeth Bagby ten dollars

I Appoint my brothers Jacob Johnson & Obediah Johnson Executors of this my last will & Testament
