Russell was born in 1923. He passed away in 2012.
Russell was a native of Brooks County, and was the son of Russell M. and Augusta Luvenia (Gussie) Hopper Johnson. He is preceded in death by his wife, Eddie Lee Perry Johnson and siblings, Edna Maxine Touchton and Helen Monteen Rhodes.
Russell was a veteran enlisting in the Army Air Corps in 1942 for four years and continued in the Reserves until 1956. He was a life-long member of the American Legion Posts 222 and 17, first in Thomasville, GA, and then in Dublin, GA. He retired as Director from the V. A. Domicilliary in Dublin, and was the oldest member and Historian of Poplar Springs North Baptist Church at his death. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and several genealogical societies.
Survivors include his daughter, Evelyn Johnson (Edward) Bugg, of Forsyth; granddaughters, Melissa Bugg (Glenn Grastat) and Melanie (Rob) Palumbo, all of Atlanta, GA; and great-granddaughter, Olivia Ann Palumbo.
