Walter leased the Devonshire Hotel in Newtonards just after World War II. He lived there with his family until 1963 when the family moved to 5 High Street, Newtonards.
Walter was president of Ards Rugby club between 1962-71.
Walter died at the age of 85 in March 1999 in Thanet With Dover, Kent, England.[3]
