US Black Heritage Project
Martha (Jones) Organ is a part of US Black heritage.

Martha was born in 1876. She passed away after 1936.

Martha Organ was interviewed May 18, 1937 in Cary, North Carolina about her life and her time as an enslaved person. She was too young to have been enslaved, but tells stories she heard from her parents.

"I doan know nothin' 'bout slavery 'cept what I hyard my mother tell, an' dat ain't so much. I know dat my pappy's name wuz Handy Jones an' my mammy's name wuz Melisa. She belong to a Mr. Whitaker but atter she married my pappa she belonged ter Mr. Rufus Jones, Mr. Rufus wuz Mr. Wesley Jones' brother at de ole Fanning Jones place; an' he owned a sizable plantation."
