Biography

Francis was born May 19,1850 in Sumner, Illinois. He was the son of John Jones and MaryAnn Ridgley. Mary Ann Ridgley was the daughter of Richard and Mary H Ridgley, who are buried at Ridgely Cemetery, Lawrence County, Illinois. After Mary Ann’s first husband James Neal died, she married her second husband, James Jones on September 10, 1846. Neither are buried at Ridgley but one of their children, Francis Marion Jones and his descendants are.

Francis Marion Jones married Rachel Moore March 14, 1876, in Lawrence County, Illinois. The 1880 census showed him living in Lukin with Rachel, age 24 and a 3 -year- old daughter named Mary Elvira Jones. Researchers believe Rachael died October 8, 1885 and was buried at Bell Cemetery.

Francis Marion married his second wife. Mary Francis “Fanny" Tuckey on April 12, 1891, in Richland County, Illinois. He was 40 years old. She was 21 years old and her parents were Julius A and Mary E Wright Tucker.

In 1900, Francis M, Fannie and their son, Luther age 8, were living in Lukin Township. Their fourteen- month- old son, Duel F, had died in 1900. They buried him in Ridgley cemetery. Fanny stated in 1900 census that she had had two children but only one was still living. That would be Luther. She and Frank also lost Luther in WWI.

Francis Marion Jones, a retired farmer, died October 4, 1925, at Sumner, Christy Township, Lawrence County, Illinois of chronic parenchymatous nephritis (chronic kidney disease). He was 75 years 4 months 14 days old at his death according to his death record. No obituary has been located.
