Notes
1
William spent his early years at Ffynnonsaint. At around the time of his marriage to Margaret, he moved just a short distance away to Blaen Eigiau, Newchurch. He had a further move a few years later to Blaenduad, Conwil Elfet before settling at Berthlwyd, Llangynog where he remained for the rest of his life. Even though William had moved outside of the Merthyr parish boundary, he still kept close ties with Merthyr church, baptising a number of his children there.

In the 1871 census there is an orphan boy called David Pencland living with them. He is aged 11 and gives his birthplace as Merthyr.

The son William married a Margaret and they are the parents of the grandchildren mentioned in the 1851 census entry for William and Mary Jones at Ffynnonsaint, as I found baptism entries for Sarah (2 Sept 1838), Thomas (31 Jan 1841), Mary (16 Nov 1844) and Eliza (18 Feb 1846).
