Biography
James Jones is Notable.
James was born in 1839 in Mississippi. He is the son of Nathaniel K. and Caroline Jones.[1]
He served for the Confederacy during the Civil War with the 3rd Arkansas Cavalry.
He married in 1860 to Mary Eaton.[2] They had a son Willie.[3] In 1863 he was married to Susan Eaton.[4] They had two girls, Sue and Lenora.[3] His third marriage was to Susan Somervell.[5] With her he had James, Nathan, and Mary.[6][7]
He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1874. From there his interests turned to politics. He was a member of the Arkansas State Senate from 1873-1879. He was elected to the US House of Representatives in 1881 serving until 1885, when he was elected to the US Senate.
He died in 1908 at his home in Hempstead County, Arkansas. He is buried at Rock Creek Cemetery in Washington, DC.[8]
