Frederick Cleave Jones was born on 31 December 1879 and baptised on 11 February 1880.
On 7 January 1902 he was a seaman with the Union Steam Ship Company living in Sumner road, Lyttelton, when he volunteered to serve in South Africa. He was awarded the Africa Medal and two clasps. He was a labourer in 1908 living at the Trafalgar Hotel in Greymouth.
He married Elizabeth O’Connor about September 1909[1].
He was a seaman in 1911 living at Winchester street, Lyttelton with Elizabeth. [electoral roll] Cook at the White Hart Hotel in Christchurch in 1916 [Army Reserve Roll] Labourer of 21 Walpole street, Christchurch in 1919, living with Elizabeth. He was a labourer and was buried on 15 September 1924 at Lyttleton.
Elizabeth married secondly Henry George Hay in 1925 and had twins in 1926. Nelson George and Morris James born in Hastings, Hawkes Bay. [Barbara Caffell]
