Olof was born in 1672 at Perstorp in the parish of Hällestad as the son of the bergsman Jöns Persson and his wife Elin Larsdotter.[1] He was christened July 7 and his godparents were Olof Thorsson, Anders Nilsson, Jon Månsson at the mine's wife Maria, Anders Larsson at the mine smeltery's wife Margaretha.[2]
Olof lived with his parents until he was 18. After that he worked at Hult for five years and then at Rådsla in Vreta Kloster parish for seven years.[1]
January 13, 1701, Olof married Anna Isaksdotter, the daughter of his employer Isak Olofsson.[3] The couple lived at Rådsla and had four children; two boys and two girls.[1] The last childbirth went wrong and Anna became ill and bound to her bed. She remained so for the following 25 years, until she died in 1743.[4]
Olof was a bergsman,[1] meaning that he had the right to break iron ore and melt it into pig of iron. The bergsmen often worked in hyttlag (cooperative) consisting of around eight bergsmen and alongside the work with iron they farmed the land.[5] He worked at the local smeltery for several years and then he became the chief operating officer of the cooperative.[1]
Olof died March 27, 1756, of bacillary dicentry and was buried April 11.[1][6]
