Five members of one family whose ages total nearly 400 years provide an uncommon note (says the "Creswick Advertiser"). They are to be found in the Kay family who were reared in the Creswick district, and their ages are 87, 84, 81, 76 and 70 respectively.
Elizabeth (Mrs. Birch) was born at Heidelberg on 29th September, 1844. She now resides at Barraport. Mary (Mrs. Bombardiera) also was born at Heidelberg in September, 1847, and her husband's name lives in the district in the locality title of Bombardiera's Flat. Mrs. Bombardiera now lives at Ultimo. Hannah (Mrs. Moneghetti) still lives at Springmount. She was born at Claretown, S.A., in June. 1830. The fourth sister is Harriet (Mrs. Pianta, now of Murtoa) who was born at Spring Gully in October, 1855. Mrs. Blundy (Amelia) who now lives at Barham, New South Wales was also born at Spring Gully, 70 years ago in May. There was only one brother, the late Mr. John Kay, blacksmith, of Springmount; whose death occurred 10 years ago. Their father, the late Ezra Kay, an Englishman, on coming to Creswick, started the saw mill which gave the name Sawpit Gully. The story of these five sisters, whose ages total 398 years and average nearly 90, is woven into the story of the development of Australia for they have all been useful citizens.
