James was born 1862 in Missouri. He is the son of Allen Berge Kennedy (1824-1909) and Matildia Elizabeth (Gilmore) Kennedy (1841-1913).
In 1891, the year following the organization of Oklahoma Territory, James and his brother Dr. Samuel Grant Kennedy, came to the new territory and established themselves in the practice of medicine at Tulsa, a frontier village that then claimed only a few business places and a small population. In 1898, the Kennedy brothers erected the first brick building in Tulsa which was used as their office. His brother, Dr. Samuel Kennedy retired from medical practice in 1907.
James married Minnie Olive Lombard on 29 March, 1893, in Osage Nation, Oklahoma Territory, United States. Minnie passed away in 1900.
James later married Mabel Hester Lombard in 1901 in Jackson, Missouri, United States. Mable is the sister of Minnie Lombard.[1][2]
James passed away in 1923 and is buried in Oaklawn Cemetery, Plot Section 10, Block 260, Kennedy Vault, Tulsa, Tulsa County, Oklahoma, USA.[7]

Dr. James L. Kennedy married Minnie Lombard in 1892 who died within 10 months after the marriage producing one son, Albert Allen.
He then married Minnies' sister, Mable Lombard, on October 30, 1903. Minnie and Mable being sisters to Dr. Samuel Grant Kennedy's wife Agnes Lombard.
Dr. James Kennedy and Mable had two children, Beatrice and Edward Lombard Kennedy.
