Biography

John Ker or Kerr was born on 23 June 1754, baptized on 28 June 1754 at Bunkle, Berwickshire, a son of Ninian Kerr (or Ker) and Marian Calder (or Caldra). Spelling was unsettled; there was no "correct" way to write the names, just several variations. Handwriting on the records is poor but appears to show the surname as "Ker", whereas later records showed "Kerr".
