Biography

John was born Feb 1850. He immigrated from Germany around 1870, settling in Chicago. He was a tailor.^[1] From 1880 to 1889, he was in the city directory at 3045 Butler Ave.^[2]
In the 1900 census, he was at the same address. They had 12 children, 8 living.^[1]

All the children were born in Illinois. In the household was:

Frank, age 28

August, age 19

Clara, age 17

Louisa, age 19

Bernhardt, age 10

Ethel, age 7

as well as Augusta, his wife, age 50.
His daughter Mary Magdalene had already gotten married and moved out by 1900.^[3]
