Biography

Joseph Kincaid was born in Ireland between 1813 and 1815. He married to Martha Miller, of Switzerland County, Indiana, in 1838.

Joseph and Martha were residing in Monongalia, Virginia during the 1850 census with their children.

The last census when Joseph was listed in Monongalia, West Virginia was 1880. His wife Martha had died in 1874. His elderly sister Isabella Fast, widow of Jonathan [Joshua?] Fast, was residing in his household. Two of his sons resided next to him. Joseph was not mentioned in the will of his sister made 10 Dec 1892. She bequeathed the entirety of her estate to his son John W. Kincaid. Her only request of her nephew was to bury her next to her deceased husband Jonathan Fast, near Smithtown in Monongalia County.

Note: Isabella Kincaid was single when she married in 1860 at age 54 to John Darnell who was a widower. Record shows she married to Joshua Fast in 1865 as a widow. Her will was likely transcribed from an original and was signed with her mark. The copy in the book clearly reads Jonathan Fast.
