Biography

Lyon King is one of twins.

William and his twin brother, Arthur King were born January 2, 1913.[1] They were the only children of Max King and May Wookey.

In 1915, the King family moved to Denver, Colorado, where Lyon spent his youth. In 1920, he was living with his parents, Max and May, and brother, Arthur, and their servant, Sadie Casten, in a rented house at 928 Olive Street.[2]

Lyon was just 9 years old when his father died in 1922. By 1930, 17 year-old Lyon, his mother, May, and brother, Arthur were living in their own home at 946 Washington Street, Colorado. May was worked as a piano teacher from the family home.[3]

Lyon was married in 1939 in Toronto to Marjorie Little Rean. He completed his medical training by 1914, and joined the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve in 1942. He was posted as Surgeon Lieutenant on board the H.M.C.S. St. Croix. [4] On September 20, 1943, the H.M.C.S. St. Croix was torpedoed by German Uboats during the Battle of the Atlantic, sunk within three minutes of the third torpedo attack, and lost at sea.[5] Surgeon Lieutenant William Lyon Mackenzie King was onboard, and perished at sea. [6] He left behind his wife, Margery and their two children.[7]
