Herbert King is an Anzac who served in World War One.

Herbert Clancy King was born 9 Aug 1892 in Alberton, South Australia. He was the son of Herbert King and Agnes Clancy. [1]

Herbert was 22 years and 4 months of age when he enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 21 Jul 1915. His next of kin was his mother, Mrs Agnes King, 128 Melbourne street, North Adelaide.
He embarked with the 11th reinforcement, 12th Australian Infantry Battalion from Adelaide on HMAT Benalla A24 on 27 Oct 1915. On arrival in Egypt he joined the 52nd Battalion. They departed Alexandria on the Ivernia, arriving in Marseilles on 11 Jun 1916.
The 52nd fought in its first major battle at Mouquet Farm on 3 September 1916. Herbert was wounded in action, receiving a gun shot wound to the knee. He was admitted to the 2nd Western General Hospital in London, from there he was returned to Australia on HT Ulysses on 13 Feb 1917.

Herbert was a tenor with the YMCA Returned Soliders Concert Party. They toured Australia to raise funds for the war work of the YMCA. [2]

He married Mary Ann Ryan 10 Oct 1932 at St Ignatius Church, Norwood. [3]

Herbert passed away age 74 on 21 Aug 1965 in Gawler, South Australia [4] and was buried in Centennial Park Cemetery. [5]
