Vernice (Kirby) Halbert has Danish ancestors

Vernice June Kirby was born in 1919 in Avonlea, Saskatchewan, Canada. She was the daughter of Fay Kirby and Marie Sørensen. Her father was a farmer; her parents had seven children in total.[1]

Some time during 1920-22 Vernice's family moved back to her father's birthplace Riverview, Moody, South Dakota, United States to farm. There, two younger brothers were born: Fabian (1922) and Francis (1925).[2]

Before the 1926 census, her family moved back to Avonlea, Elmsthorpe, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada.[3]

In the 1931 census Vernice (age 11), Student, was the daughter of Fay Kirby (age 38, Section Man/Steam Railroad) and Merie Kirby (age 33) in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada. She had six siblings.[4]

Vernice married Robert "Bob" Halbert, son of John Halbert and Annie McGill. His parents were born in Scotland and immigrated to Saskatchewan, Canada. They both grew up in the same area. Robert and Vernice had two sons and two daughters: [5]

Shortly after their son Gerald's birth; Vernice and Bob moved with their three children to Nanton, Alberta, Canada.[5]

Vernice passed away at 68 years of age in Kelowna General Hospital, Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. They were residing in Kelowna. Vernice's main occupation was: labour, in a packing house. Vernice was mentioned on a memorial in Lakeview Memorial Gardens, Kelowna, Central Okanagan Regional District, British Columbia, Canada with a death date of 14 Apr 1988.[6][7]
