  • Other trees have Henry Kister b. 1840 and Catherine Becker b. 1840 as parents. Email to Michael Fyler at Walter shows they are listed as parents but no source such as birth or death certificate to confirm.

  • Fyler notes: I found Magdalena Kister's obit and certificate of death, neither was that helpful. On the death certificate it lists her father as Henry and her mother as Katherine Kister, her birth date is 16 Aug 1868. One of the obits indicates a sister in Russia and that her birth date is the 30 Aug 1868. I opened the link to Find-A-Grave on your Wiki page and her grave stone has her birth date as 30 Aug 1868 and I found the birth record below which is closer than the 16 Aug 1868 which does not exists. Magdalena is one of 6 children, the first 3 died in childhood, she has 2 sisters which at this point we have nothing more on them.
  • Notes from Walter DB from family: Dietz; Descendants of Johannes Dietz, Apr 1999; She married George Dietz and had 3 children that we know about. About 1899, George died and the custom of the time was for a unmarried brother to marry his brothers widow. So a marriage was arranged with brother Johannes. We were told she did not love John, but for the sake of the children worked had to make the marriage work. At some time, her son George also died and she had five children with John. One child died on the ship and was buried at sea. We know that Lena worked very hard and the family moved often. She had a hard life. Lena died in Powell but wanted to be buried in Billings. She is buried at Mountview and John in Powell. Died of influenza and pneumonia
IMM: 24 Jun 1906 to US, Galveston TX; living in CO, TX & IA; 1913 to Billings
NOTE: When George died Lena married his younger brother, John, son of Johanes Dietz and it is believed that John/s mother was Maggie Giese. We were told that she didn't love John but was talked into this marriage for the sake of the children. Lena worked very hard all her life and during her marriage to John was kept moving from place to place.

  • Fyler: By process of elimination I've come up with a reasonable answer to who the Catharina Elisabeth Seibel who married Johann Heinrich Kister is. Catharina Elisabeth Seibel was first married to Jacob Döll b. abt 1828 and died 16 May 1853 of typhoid fever along with 2 of their 3 children. The middle child Johann Adam shows up in the 1857 with the Döll family but not with the Kister family, the thinking is since he is male he stays with his father's family.
