Biography

Regina Ernestina Marie was born on 6 May 1828, the daughter of Gottfriedrich Kleinow and his wife Friederica Wendland. She was confirmed at her parish church in Plath, Mecklenburg-Strelitz in 1842. [1]

Her son Adolph Christian Friedrich Kleinow was born on 23 Feb 1850 and baptized on 10 Mar 1850 in Plath. She was unmarried at the time, and the baptism record named Ladwig Schäfer of the nearby village of Rehberg as the child's father. The baptismal sponsors were Friedrich Störehand(?), Christiana Kleinow and Adolph Köller. [2]

Her daughter Carolina Maria Christiana Kleinow was born on 10 Sep 1854 and baptized on 10 Sep 1854 in Plath. No father was named in the baptism record. Baptismal sponsors were Carolina Herzog, Maria Herzog, and Christian Kleinow. [3] Maria was possibly her sister who married Carl Johann Friedrich Hertzog in 1837, and Christian one of her brothers. The child died at the age of 4 months, 27 [28?] days, on 7 Feb 1855, and was buried on 10 Feb. [4]

She travelled from Hamburg to New York on the ship Germania in August 1863. The passenger record noted that she was 33 years old, single, and from Plath. Also listed from Plath was 28 year old Sophie Vicenz. [5] Her son Friedrich apparently remained in Plath, because he was confirmed there in 1864.

She married Carl "Charles" Sternhagen on 12 Jan 1864 in Lorain County, Ohio. [6] Their daughter was born on 20 Nov 1867 in Russia, Lorain, Ohio. [7] She was not listed with them in the 1870 census, so she likely died young.

In 1870 she and Charles were living in Penfield (post office Pittsfield), Lorain, Ohio. [8]

In 1880 she and Carl were living in Pittsfield, Lorain, Ohio with her daughter-in-law Mary Kleinow, and her three grandsons Fredrick, Helmuth and Oscar. [9]

She died about 1883 and was probably buried at Pittsfield East Cemetery in the old section, lot #218. [10] [11]
