The individual shown as his son, Heinrich Deppe, was his adopted son, not biologic son. It is unknow at this time whether Knickman's wife, Eliza Deppe, was related by blood to Heinrich. She married Knickman prior to Heinrich's immigration to the US, which took place around 1853. Knickman and Deppe were married in St. Louis in 1850, according to records.
