Lucy was born Lucy Frances Knight on the 30th of October 1867 in Smith County, Tennessee.. She was the eldest daughter and second oldest child of Henry Harlin and Luvica Knight.[1] She was known as “Fannie” for most of her life. Her parents divorced when she was four years old. It is not fully known if she stayed in Tennessee or not, but her mother moved to central Illinois. Some time before 1880, Lucy was adopted by Letta and Jinks Kemp, her grandaunt and granduncle.[2] Some time before 1887, she had moved to central Illinois as well.
On her twentieth birthday (30th of October 1887), Lucy married Granville Peasley in McLean county, Illinois.[3] The couple had five children together and remained married the rest of their lives.
Following 1903, Lucy had multiple affairs with a man by the name of James Arthur Johnson. These affairs resulted in the birth of at least three of the last four of Lucy’s children. These children were born and raised as Peasley.[4]
Lucy was a housewife to a farmer her whole life, living in Downs Township alongside her husband her whole life.[5][6][7] She died on the 8th of February 1929 in Bloomington, Illinois.[8] She was buried in the Heyworth Cemetery.[9]
