Ivers was born February 15, 1790 in The Hamlet of Ipswich, Essex Co., Massachusetts, the son of Malachi Knowlton and Abigail Patch. His birth record (image at right) appears in the Wenham birth records but that is an error. The Wenham birth record comes from a Bible said to be in the possession of a Mrs. Frances E. Dodge. The information in the Bible gives Ivers place of birth and death as Wenham but we know he was born in The Hamlet and passed away in Marblehead. He was baptized in March 1790 in The Hamlet church. The Hamlet would become the town of Hamilton.
Ivers married 1st Sarah Patch on November 10, 1814 in Hamilton, Massachusetts.
He married 2nd Sarah Shepard on October 20, 1842 in Marblehead, Massachusetts. Their intention was published September 24, 1842 in Hamilton.
Ivers and his family are found enumerated in Hamilton, Massachusetts in the 1820, 1830 and 1840 U.S. Census of that town.
There are conflicting records as to the day of Ivers passing in December 1842 of what was called "a nervous fever". Both December 21 and 30th are given. However, there are convincing records that he was buried December 23, 1842 in Hamilton. So the December 21st date must be correct. He passed away in Marblehead and was buried in Hamilton two days later.
