Biography
Flossie Koonce was born on 01 November 1915 in Cumberland County, North Carolina, United States. She was the daughter of Edgar Cornelius Koonce (1887–1965) and China Sally Jane Dees (1892–1946).[1][2]
Flossie was 4 years old when the 1920 United States Census was taken. She was living in the household of her parents in Hoke, North Carolina along with 5 siblings. The family surname was misspelled "Kooge" by the enumerator. Her given name was misspelled "Frossie."[3]
The 1930 United States Census was taken when Flossie was 14 years old. She was living in the household of her father, Ed. C. Koonce, in Stonewall Township, Hoke County, North Carolina, along with her mother and 6 siblings.[4]
Flossie and Marshall Lee Carter were married before 1934. They were the parents of at least 3 children. One of the children, Helen Marie Carter, was born and died in 1934.[5]
Flossie Carter, her husband Marshall, and their family were enumerated on the 1940 and 1950 United States Censuses for Cumberland County, North Carolina.[6][7]
Flossie (Koonce) Carter died on 9 July 1991 in Fayetteville, Cumberland County, North Carolina, aged 75.[8][2] She was buried in Galatia Presbyterian Church, Fayetteville, Cumberland County, North Carolina.[9]
