Rudolf was born 1812 in Gallenkirch, Aargau, Switzerland.^[1]

He married first Elisabeth Hirt (1814-1848) 1840 in Stilli, Aargau, Switzerland. They had four children:

1. Samuel b 1840 d 1865
2. Rudolf b 1841 d 1863
3. Johannes "John" b 1843
4. Kaspar b 1846 m 1877 Eliza Kerns d 1898

The family migrated to Sandusky county, Ohio via Le Havre and New York in May 1848; Elisabeth died shortly after arrival.

Rudolf married second Elisabeth (Ott) Baumann 7 Apr 1849 in Sandusky county. She too was a recent migrant and widow, with two young children; she and Rudolf may have known each other from their youth in Switzerland.

In January 1856, Elisabeth petitioned the court in Fremont, Ohio, accusing Rudolf of "habitual drunkenness, neglect, and extreme cruelty. She stated she had been whipped the night before filing her petition. Divorce decree and restoration of her former name were granted" in March 1856.

He married third Elizabeth Bromley 29 Apr 1856 in Sandusky county, Ohio. They relocated to Cass, Indiana, and had three children:

2. Sarah b 1863
3. William b 1870 m 1901 Nancy Emma Beasey d 1909

Rudolf's death record has not yet been found.
