Biography

Joseph was born in Montreal, Quebec, on November 29, 1891. His parents were Joseph LaFleur (1854-1916) and Lucie Carpentier (1863-1914). There is a link below to his baptismal certificate.

Joseph's father was a charretier and in 1911, eighteen-year-old Joseph was also working as a carter while he was still living in Quebec. Joseph's obituary says he moved to Alberta in 1911. So far early records of his life in Calgary are proving elusive. It must have been around 1917 that he married Elizabeth Benner, an immigrant from Russia. In 1926 the couple was living on Meredith Road in the district of Bridgeland-Riverside. They have two children: Joseph, born around 1918, and Georgina, born in 1922.

Unfortunately Elizabeth died in 1941 as did a son of Georgina, who was married to Ross Alexander . At this point Joseph and Elizabeth had been living at the Armour Block, which is located on 4th Street N.E. in Bridgeland-Riverside. Joseph was still living at this location in 1953.

Daughter Georgina m. (1) Ross Alexander Robinson; and (2) Mario Domenico Rebaudengo. Mario was the son of Antonio Rebaudengo and Angela Ceresero. The Rebaudengo family was quite prominent in Calgary's Italian community.

Joseph does not seem to be a man with any particular occupation. He floated from one laboring type of job to another as can be seen below from his entries in various Henderson directories.

Joseph died in 1965 and is buried at St. Mary's Cemetery.

LaFLEUR - May 3rd Joseph Moise LaFleur, aged 70 years, 91 Fullerton Road S.E. Born at Montreal, he had resided in Calgary since 1911. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Mario (Georgina) Rebaudengo and a son, Joseph, Calgary, 4 grandchildren, Terry, Angela, Marge and Christine Rebaudengo. He was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth in 1941. Prayers at The Little Chapel on the Corner (JACQUES Funeral Home) this evening at 7 p.m. Requiem Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony's Church (5340 4th Street S W) Thursday at 10 a.m. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery.
