Cleve, as his son told me, owned rice fields in Eunice. After his wife died he drank and gambled his land away. I'm really not sure if the way his son was treated by his father effected the information he gave me but if it was true. It was really a sad and awful life for his son.
After his mother's death he lived with a cousin and help on the farm. His cousin's wife told me that she washed and dried and ironed his clothes and put them on his bed and when he saw them, there were tears in his eyes. He told her that no one had done that since his mother died. According to Ardy, his mom died after eating the only piece of Blueberry pie at the Rasberry household and became ill on the way home. So ill they called the doctor and he came and when he left told them if she didn't get better to fetch him, but he before he had gone too far, Ardy was sent to get him but she died. Ardy believed the Rasberry had given her pie with poison in it. Not my statement but one he told to me. Surprisingly he later married a Raspberry.
