Biography

William Laird was born in Scotland.

William Laird was baptised in the parish of Falkirk on 17 May 1812 and was the son of William Laird and Agnes Wingate.^[1]

William married Ann Wright on 1 December 1833 and they had three children, however the dates for the birth of Agnes make no sense as she was born in 1849 and William married Jean Cupples in 1848.^[2]

On the 1841 census, William, a nailer, and Ann are living in the village of Camelon with their son, William, aged 6 years. Ann's brother, Thomas, is also living with them.^[3]

After Ann's death, William married Jean Cupples in the parish of Falkirk on 16 April 1848 and they had seven children.^[4]

On the 1851 census, William, a nailer, and Jean are living in the village of Camelon with their children: William (20 years), John (8 years) and Elizabeth (2 months).^[5]

On the 1861 census, William, a nail maker, is living in lodgings at 79-83 E Milton St, Glasgow Barony, Lanarkshire, with his son, John, aged 17 years, who is also a nail maker.^[6]

On the 1871 census, William, a nailer, and Jean are living in Camelon with their children: Alexander (14 years), Robert (3 years), Elizabeth (20 years). They also have a grandson, Thomas Muir (16 months) and Jean's son, James McGhee (28 years) living with them.^[7]

William Laird died of heart disease, and 68 years, on 21 July 1880.^[8]
