Biography

Margaret (Laird) Hyslop was born in Scotland.

Margaret Laird was born in 1855 and was the second daughter of William Laird and Jean Cupples.^[1]

On the 1861 census, Margaret, aged 6 years, is living on Sth Of Street, Falkirk, with their children: James (14 years), Elizabeth (9 years), Alexander (3 years) and Anne (1 year). William is not actually on the census record.^[2]

Margaret married Alexander Cupples in the parish of Falkirk on 2 June 1873 and they had eight children. Margaret and Alexander were first cousins as Margaret's mother was the sister of Alexander Cupples's father.^[3]

On the 1891 census, Margaret, a widow, is living at Binniehill, Slamannan, with her children: William (12 years), James (10 years), Robert (7 years), Jane (7 years), Alex (4 years) and Annie (1 year). Alexander and Annie both died of measles within days of each other in 1893.^[5]

Margaret married William Hyslop in the parish of Slamannan on 19 June 1891 and they had one son.^[6]
