Biography

Captain Peter Lambert, born c.1785 at Castle Ellen, was descended from the Lamberts of Creg Clare c.1600. He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County Galway and resided at Castle Ellen in Athenry which had been the family home since the time of his grandfather Walter Peter Lambert (1758–1836). Prior to this it was owned by the Browne family.

Another online family tree describes him as "Peter Fitzwalter (The Rabbit) LAMBERT". The ascribed middle name 'Fitzwalter' is an error based on misreading of a headstone in St Marys churchyard at Athenry which is actually that of his grandson. Captain Peter Lambert of Castle Ellen himself had no middle name
