Biography

Daniel Lamoreaux was born in 1757, probably in New York, since his father, Andrew Lamoreaux, was born, married, and died in New York. Daniel died in 1821.

He married at St. George Church, Hempstead, Long Island, New York, 12 Mar 1782, Charity Wetmore, born at Rye, New York, 23 Jan 1760, the daughter of James Wetmore and Elizabeth Abrahams; died at Kingston, New Brunswick, 10 Jul 1849. [1] [2] [3] [4]

They had children as follows:

(I) Andrew Ogden, who married Sarah Wurt; res. in St. Johns [Saint John, New Brunswick], had a numerous family; his oldest son, George, m. his cousin, Susannah, dau. of Judge David Brown Wetmore; (II) Daniel, b —, m. in N. Y.; (III) Elizabeth, b. —; m. in N. Y, ; (IV) Susannah, b. —; m. in N. Y. ; (V) Thomas, b. and m. in N. Y, ; (VI) James, b. and m. in N. Y. ; (VII) David, b. —; m. in N. Y. [5]

Daniel Lamoreux appears in the New Brunswick land grant records in 1784 in St John County. [6]

From Andrew Beyea's The History of French Village:

Charity Wetmore, date of birth not given, married Daniel Lamerceau (or Lamorceaus) the grantee of lot No. 16 (248 acres), in the grant to Humphrey Bull and others. Daniel and Jesse Lamerceau were grantees of lots No. 268 and 269 in Carleton, West Saint John. As they both settled on the Hammond River lot (as shown on [his brother-in-law] John Wetmore’s road plan) they probably were brothers, and judging by their name they appear to have been of Huguenot descent. At what time they left French Village is unknown, but about the year 1825 the north end of the lot was bought by Richard Smith, hotel keeper and made a part of his farm. [7]

Daniel had a brother Jesse and they were both granted land. Jesse, son of Andre and brother of this Daniel, was said to be the Jesse who married Jane Wetmore on 15 August 1782 in .[8] [9]
