Biography

John's birth was not registered and a baptism record has not been found as at 20 Jan 2019.

John's marriage certificate indicates that he born c 1854 and his father was John Lane. ^[1]The marriage record from St Bartholomew's church does not provide any further information.^[2]

The Adelaide Hospital admission three days before John's death, on 10 Dec 1922, indicates that John came from Victoria.^[3]

John's death was registered as John Thomas Lee. The death certificate indicates that his birthplace was Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Birth was c 1854.^[4]

Y-DNA testing has shown that John Thomas Lane is a descendant of John Lane (his grandfather), who was the husband of Mary Overland. His father John is named as a brother to Henry, in the latter's convict indent record. John Lane married Charlotte Couzner. A number of the descendants of John Thomas Lane share autosomal DNA with both the descendants of John Lane (grandfather) and Mary Overland, and also with the descendants of James Couzner and Sarah King

A great-grandson of John Thomas Lane submitted to a Y-67 DNA test. When compared with a gg-grandson of Henry Lane, likely uncle of John Thomas Lane, there was a genetic distance of 2. The two testers are fourth cousins. To date (28 Apr 2021) no DNA matches have been found that suggests John Thomas Lane had any siblings.^[5]
