John Larke is Notable.
John Larke is/was a significant Ontarian .
John S. Larke was Canada's first trade commissioner. He represented the country in Australia beginning in 1895.[1]
He was born in 1840 near Stratton, Cornwall.[2] His parents, Charles Larke and Grace Yeo Short, emigrated to Canada when he was four. After graduating from Victoria College in Cobourg, John worked as a teacher before becoming involved with the Oshawa Vindicator newspaper.
In 1870 John married Eliza Bain in Oshawa, Ontario. [3] They had four children: William, Frederick, Eva and Percy.
In 1879 he left journalism for manufacturing. While heading up the Oshawa Stove Company, he also served as reeve and warden of Ontario County.
