PASSING of HERMAN J. LOW Another Pioneer Has Gone to Claim His Reward (Northwood, IA newspaper) Herman J. Low, aged 76, one of the pioneers of southern Minnesota and northern Iowa, passed away at home in this city last Wednesday, shortly after noon. For years he had suffered from the effects of asthma and had patiently borne agonies which would have brought a less resolute man to dispair many times. Ten days before his death his condition became very serious and his constitution, worn by long struggles with his illness, was unable to overcome the attack. Almost forty years ago, Mr. Low cam from Columbus, Wisc (would have been Dodge Co - Patti Low), by ox team to Freeborn Co., Minn near the state line, and purchased a quarter section of land which he farmed for several years.
After his removal, the farm was conducted by other members of the family and is now occupied by his son Manley.
Mr. and Mrs. Low moved to Northwood twenty-seven years ago and have since resided here. Almost six years ago, they celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary at their home in this city.
Besides the aged wife, five children are left to mourn their father's death. They are Oliver of La Crosse, Wisc., Oscar and Manly, of Northwood, Mrs. Robert F. Low of Northwood, and Mrs. George Cull of Minneapolis.
Funeral services were held in the Zion Lutheran Church in Northwood, last Friday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. Landdaeck, the pastor of Grafton. Interment was in Sunset Cemetery.
