Biography

Clara M. (Lautenbach) Ayers, 86, formerly of 828 Bell Avenue, Sheboygan, Sheboygan, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Monday evening, 20 November 1978 at the Sunny Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 3014 Erie Avenue, in Sheboygan. She was born in Plymouth, Sheboygan, Wisconsin on 20 April 1892, a daughter of Louis Lautenbach, 1861-1945 and Otelia (Andre) Lautenbach, 1869-1955. She married Lawrence Jacob Ayers in 1917.

Mrs. Ayers attended schools in Plymouth and following her marriage the couple moved to Sheboygan where they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1967.

She was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Parish at 818 Huron Avenue, Sheboygan; the St. Anne's Christian Mothers; the Altar Society and formerly was active in the town's Women's Charity Club and the Liederkranz (music) Auxiliary.

Her survivors included: her daughters, Evelyn Frances (Donald) Wolf, b. 1923 of Beloit; Marilyn A. (Leo) Tresp, b. 1930 of Sheboygan; sisters, Agnes (Lautenbach) Mooney, b. 1897 of Plymouth; Irma (Lautenbach) Buecheler, b. 1900 of South Burlington, Vermont; 21 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Ayers was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Lawrence, 1891-1970; son, Leo Joseph Ayers, 1920-1972; and sister, Frances M. (Lautenbach) Spartz, 1894-1937.

Friends called at the Kroos-Mason Funeral Home in Sheboygan after 4:00 p.m., Thursday, 23 November 1978. This was followed by a parish and St. Anne's Society Bible vigil there that evening at 7:30 p.m.

Family rites were held at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m., Friday. Then a concelebrated funeral Mass was offered at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Name Catholic Church where the Rev. Fr. Eugene C. Neuman officiated.

The family announced that a memorial fund was established in their dear Clara's name.

Burial followed at the Calvary Cemetery, Sheboygan, Sheboygan, Wisconsin; plot: section 7, west-106 SE, 1/4-2. The findagrave memorial ID is 62676128.
