Biography
Family trees at Ancestry.com show that Mary Guinevere Leigh, daughter of Jesse Leigh, was born in Whitley County, Kentucky, in 1815, and that she married Fleming Trigg Cox in that county in 1830. (Her birthplace was actually Knox County, Ky., the predecessor to Whitley.) Presumably this information comes from Cox family lore. Mary has two candidate fathers: "Valley" Jesse Lay and "River" Jesse Lay, both of whom lived in Whitley County and who were occasionally shown in the Whitley County tax lists as Jesse Leigh.
