Alex wasfirstly a black smith who became a professional football player, playing in Half Back position. He was also involved in a match fixing scandal, stating he had been offered a bribe to throw a match. During his career he played for England 5 times and was with:-

• Small Heath
• Aston Villa
• Wednesbury Old Athletic

In the 1911 census Alexander (age 39), Professional Footballer, was the married head of household at 240 Somerville Rd S H Bham, Aston, Warwickshire, England.^[2]

After retiring from playing he was a trainer with Crystal Palace FC, and the after the war with Merthyr Town FC for a short time.

Alexander (age 66) was buried on 1 April 1938 in Warwickshire, England.^[3][4]
