Biography

Joseph was born about 1818. He was the son of Jeremiah Leary and Catherine Summers. His father died when he was a small child and by 1820 his mother and sisters are living in the Andrew Sommer household. He is apparently the male under ten in Sommer's household in the 1820 census. Joseph is named as an heir in the will of his grandfather, written in 1824, however, there is no mention of him in the settlement of his estate, drawn up in 1830, but his sisters are mentioned.
