Biography

Sylvina was born in 1812, the daughter of Isaac Leavitt and Ruth Perry.

She married Horatio Caswell at Winthrop, Maine on 29 Dec 1833 with a marriage intention filed at Turner on 21 December 1833. They were the parents of two known daughters:

• Amanda Melvina Caswell b. 7 May 1834 at Turner
• Ruth Perry Caswell b. 7 Nov 1839 at Turner, d. 12 Apr 1921 at Lewiston, Maine,

The 1850 US census for Auburn, Maine lists the occupants of a household as Horatio Caswell (42), employed in the shoe business, Sylvia [sic] Caswell (38), Amanda M Caswell (16), a student, and Ruth P Caswell (10). Horation owns real estate valued at $800.

The 1860 US census for Auburn, Maine lists residents Lovina [sic] Caswell (48), Ruth P Caswell (20), A factory operative, and Elonor [sic] A Phillips (16), a shoe binder and student within the past year. Sylvina owns real estate valued at $475 and has a personal estate of $150.

The 1870 US census for Auburn, Maine lists the occupants of a home as head of household Sylvina Caswell (57), keeping house, Ruth Caswell (30), works in a shoe shop, and Emma White (26), works in a shoe shop. Sylvina owns real estate valued at $1500 and has a personal estate valued at $200. All were born in Maine.

The 1880 US census for Auburn, Maine lists the residents of a home located at 14 Drummond Street as Sylvina Caswell (68), widowed, housekeeping, and her daughter Ruth P Caswell (40), single, shoe shop head.

Sylvina passed away in 1890 and is buried at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Auburn. Maine.
