Biography

Anna Lee was born in Grain Kent in 1834. Her mother was Susannah Lee, her father may have been John Solomon who her mother married in 1835 but it doesn’t appear that Ann took his name except that he is mentioned as her father in her death record which was submitted by her husband George Humm[1]

In 1841 Ann was living with her parents John and Susannah and siblings in Grain Kent. In 1851 she was a house servant for the Johnson family in High Street, St Nicholas, Medway, Kent, England.

George Humm married Ann Lee in Hoo Kent in 1854[2]

They must have migrated to Australia around 1860 where they settled in Woodford Victoria. Not far from Warrnambool.

Ann and George Humm had nine children. All born alive except the last one who was stillborn. The birth was long and protracted and after the birth it appears that Ann suffered Postnatal depression. She worried that she was going mad like her grandmother and uncle. On her last evening she was particularly distressed and before her family awoke she threw herself into a nearby river and drowned. She was found the next morning by her husband and a neighbour, a Mr Tait.[3]

She passed away in 1870.
