Born 27 December 1809, [1], Christened 1 January 1810, Ganton, Yorkshire the son of William Legard & Cecilia. [2]
William Baranabas Legard enlisted as an officer in the East India Company Bengal Army and was posted to the 31st Native Infantry. He received a medal with clasps for his role in action during the Second Sikh War of 1848-9.

William Barnabas Legard died on 27 January 1890, and was buried on 31 January 1890 at Shalford, St. Mary the Virgin, Surrey. [7] [8]
