Biography

Thomas Legh, DD[1]

Thomas was a younger son of Peter Legh and his first wife Margaret, daughter of Gilbert Gerard.[2]

On 13 June, 1629, the Archdeaconry of Chester issued Thomas Leghe and Letitia Calveley a licence to marry without proclamation of banns, addressed to Reverends Jeynson, Vicar of Prestbury, Cheshire, and Richardson, Clerks; Bondsman: Francis Leghe, Gent.[3] Lettice was the daughter of Sir George Calveley of Lea, Cheshire, and coheir of her brother Sir Hugh Calveley.[1]

Thomas and Lettice were the parents of:

  1. Richard Legh of Lyme, Cheshire, born 7 May, 1634, died 31 August, 1687,[1] married by licence dated 31 December, 1660, Elizabeth daughter of Sir Thomas Chicheley of Wimpole, Cambridgeshire, she died 1728;[1]
  2. Thomas Legh of Blackley, Lancashire & Lyme, Cheshire (b. 06 Oct 1636 - d. 22 Sep 1697; bur. Macclesfield).[4]

He was the rector of Sefton,[2] From 1631-9, Thomas was rector of Walton on the Hill, Lancashire, England.[1]

Thomas Legh, DD, died in 1639.[1]
