Biography

George was born in 1874, his birth being registered in the 1st quarter of 1875^[1]. He was the son of Reverend Edward Lester and Hannah Hardey.

He was christened on 28 February 1875 at North Shore Parish, Liverpool, Lancaster, England, by his father^[2]. The Parsonage, North Shore was recorded as their abode.

George lived with his parents and siblings at St. Paul's Vicarage, 62 St Johns Road, Kirkdale, Lancashire, England, where his father was Vicar. In 1891 he was aged 16.

Occupation: Apprentice To Spice Merchant

His father died in 1905.

In 1905 directory is listed as a partner with his brother in law, Frederic Burwell, in the fruit merchant's business of Burwell and Lester. Address at that time given as Cavendish Road, Great Crosby. (Frederic and his wife Katie emigrated to New Zealand in December 1911 with their two daughters.)

In the UK Census of 1911 he was recorded in the household of his 42 year old unmarried sister Maud Isabella Lester at 21 Cavendish Road, Blundellsands, Great Crosby, Lancashire, England, aged 36 and single. Also in the household was his brother Reginald Hamilton Lester (aged 28 and a clerk).

Occupation: Fruit Merchant

George married Mary Isabella Kilpatrick on 29 February 1916 in West Derby, Lancashire, England^[3]. The address on their marriage certificate is given as 21 Cavendish Road, Blundellsands.

They had no children.

His mother died in 1920.

In the 1939 England and Wales Register 64 year old George was recorded at 32 Lindsey Road, Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire (Parts of Lindsey), England with his 66 year old wife Mary.

George passed away in 1941 at the age of 66. He was buried on 14 April 1941 at Horncastle Cemetery, Horncastle, East Lindsey District, Lincolnshire, England^[4]. PLOT: C/53/3
