Biography

William was born in 1781. He passed away in 1858. He married Nancy Harrison probably about 1806 Buckingham County VA where her parents lived, but records are lost. Both of her parents, Benjamin Harrison and Elizabeth Wilbourne, died in 1811, where her father named her as Nancy Lewis, wife of William Shelton Lewis in the estate of the parents. There is also a Lewis/Harrison Bible, formerly owned by Elizabeth Lewis Otey -now believed to be either in the Jones Library,Rusburg , Campbell Co VA or in the Library of Virginia.

His wife's obituary (Ann "Nancy" Harrison) in 1888 published in the "Tri-weekly News" in Lynchburg Virginia "Oldest Woman in Pittsylvania County dies" Sunday June 3rd, last Sunday at Chalk Level etc] born 17 Aug 1791. Married at 15, mother of 14 ,At death she had 70 Grandchildren, over eighty great Grandchildren and several great great grandchildren. Blind for many years, member of Methodist Episiiscopal Church 60 yrs. Whe was widowed for 30 yrs. She had read the Bible through, 5 times."^[1] So, William was the father of 14 children. Most predeceased their mother. Some had predeceased their father.

There is a Bible, whereabouts now unknown, which I copied the dates of birth and death from about 23 years ago. The Bible then was owned by Robert M. Lewis Jr. of Danville Virginia. Children listed and spouses listed were:
